Science Paper in Press
October 31, 2011
Hard-won data from below the surface of the Arctic Ocean, collected at the Catlin Ice Base in April 2010, is now the subject of a scientific paper.

Dr Oliver Wurl, one of the 6 scientists who were carrying out research at the Ice Base in 2010, has just received confirmation that his scientific paper will be published in the well-respected Journal of Geophysical Reseach (produced by the American Geophysical Union).
Dr Oliver Wurl is currently affiliated with Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA (as a postdoctoral researcher) but this paper was produced whilst he was working at the Institute of Ocean Sciences, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Sidney, British Columbia, Canada.
The paper addresses the relationship between geographical latitude in the northern hemisphere (from tropics to polar) and the efficiency of an important biological ocean ‘pump’ that firstly captures atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) at the sea surface, and subsequently draws it down and stores it on the sea floor.
Oliver will be presenting his paper at the International Workshop on Marine Aggregates (IWOMA) held in Bremen/Germany on 9-12 Jan 2012.
An abstract from his paper can be seen online but the full paper will be available to view in 8 weeks time.
